Getting started as a student!
Comfortably installed in his Paris studio, Sam feels privileged compared to his colleagues at the Sorbonne, where he has been accepted for his first year of…
If you wish to go to university, you can apply for financial assistance for students at the Finanial Aid Department. Aid is granted in form of a student grant and a state-guaranteed student loan. You can choose to take the grant without taking the loan but not the other way around!
The global student grant by the Financial Aid Department consists of four different grant modules. The total amount you can obtain depends on your personal situation. The categories are as follows :
You're granted a scholarship for the official duration of the degree cycle plus a one-year bonus (2 semesters)!
However, you must demonstrate progress during the first degree cycle, otherwise financial aid may be denied. Because the grant is paid in two instalments, you must submit a grant request each semester, even if you are enrolled annually. The deadlines are 30 November for the winter semester and 30 April for the summer semester. If you miss them, you won't receive the grant!
You can complete your application online at guichet.lu. It’s fast and easy and you're guided step by step through the procedure!
Since the academic year 2021-2022, the application is made entirely via MyGuichet with or without a LuxTtrust product or electronic identity card (eID).
On MyGuichet, you will obtain a list of documents to be attached to the application that is adapted to your personal situation. Shortly after sending the application, you will receive an acceptance letter with a certificate for the bank printed on yellow security paper. Keep this letter carefully: you will need it to obtain the half-yearly instalment of your state-guaranteed loan from your bank!
Scan the QR code on the letter of approval of the Financial Aid Department or upload the letter of approval to S-Net Mobile to take out your student loan. Make sure you have installed the latest version of S-Net Mobile.
Start your studies without any worries and benefit from a loan at an advantageous rate in addition to your state-guaranteed student loan.
Other plus point: while waiting for your financial aid to be agreed, you can obtain a maximum advance of EUR 2.500 at 0% interest! Moreover, if the government financial aid mechanisms are not sufficient you can contract a Unif loan, which is an additional loan. The amount can be disbursed in a lump sum or in half-yearly instalments, which you can start paying back two years after you finished studying.
