Luxembourg is a country where speaking multiple languages is very common. On average, each individual speaks at least two languages, and the country has three official languages: French, German and Luxembourgish. But don’t worry if you don’t speak one of those, because it’s not just the large English-speaking community that can speak the language of Shakespeare.
Regarding the other most represented European nationalities in the country, those are according to STATEC the Portuguese, followed by the French and the Italians. And the total number of representatives of non-EU nationalities actually comes second in this ranking, which gives an idea of the scale of immigration in Luxembourg. In fact, 47% of Luxembourg’s current[1] population are foreigners.
Many foreign communities are therefore well represented in Luxembourg and very active in promoting the successful integration of people in the country. It is thus generally easy to obtain all the information you need and to find out about the administrative procedures you will have to complete even before you arrive in the country.
In addition, numerous events are organised for foreigners and expats. These allow you to expand your network and discover local traditions. Moreover, Spuerkeess is often present at these events, to provide expats with information and support.
