Yes, 3D Secure is what we call "strong authentication", meaning authentication that meets strong security criteria, as recommended in the second European directive on payment services in the internal market (PSD2). This principle became mandatory for all remote electronic payments in 2018 and will apply to all payment card transactions in 2021. It ensures that a fraudster who has been able to steal one security element (e.g. your card number) will be prevented from making transactions with your cards. For example: if your cards or your card data were to fall into the wrong hands, it would be impossible to make a transaction with the security data from your payment cards without having your LuxTrust user ID and password, or the one-time password generated every minute by your token. If you have opted for authentication with LuxTrust Mobile, validation is performed using your LuxTrust security data in combination with your digital fingerprint. To summarise, 3D Secure adds another layer of security to your card transactions.
